The movie Bling Ring is based on the story of a gang of youths who were successful at breaking into the homes of some of the rich and famous. The crimes began in late 2008. In the real story there were several people involved in the robberies...the actual number was 6. In the movie there were only 3 people.

Brief Timeline of the Heists

Late 2008
The youths plan to break into over 50 celebrity and high profile homes. The burglaries began at the homes of businessmen and then progress to celebrity homes. The youths studied celebrity tabloid websites like TMZ to see the layout of homes of the stars like Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton. They picked out jewelry and designer clothing that they wanted to steal. The burglaries continue from late 2008 to 2009.

Sept 2009
Members of the gang brag at a party about how they got away with the robberies. An police investigation is launched. Nicholas Prugo is the first of the Bling Ring to be arrested for the burglaries. The police continue to investigate who else might be apart of the ring. Nicholas Prugo cooperates with police hoping that he will get a plea deal. The plea deal is denied. The other suspects are then charged in the burglaries. They all plead not guilty.

2010
Alexis Neiers was arrested for possession of black-tar heroine. She was still currently on probation for the heist at Orlando Bloom's home. When she failed to check in with her probation officers they visited the home and found her in possession of heroine and a fake identification. She was booked, jailed, and charged. Rachel Lee is the last of the Bling Ring Gang to be charged. She was arrested in Las Vegas.

Sept 2011
Rachel Lee pleads no contest. She goes back into court on October 21. The movie Bling Ring appears on Lifetime

How The Bling Ring Broke into Hollywood Homes

They would break into the homes of the rich ands famous by entering through the doors and through the windows. Once they even entered through a cat flap...not sure which home had the cat flap. They got much of their information about the celebrity homes from celebrity gossip websites, magazine articles and published tabloid photos that often times had pictures of celebrities drive ways, back door entrances etc.The group used Google maps and obtained the addresses to the homes of the stars from a website called celebrityaddressaerial.com.

Tidbits

The girls all attended the same high school. According to former classmates they were all highly materialistic and only wanted the finer things in life. They loved expensive jewelry...they loved the "bling."

Nicholas Prugo did an interview where he talked about how sorry he was about the crimes. You can catch live footage of the break ins on Youtube under the name 'Bling Ring' Leader Speaks.

When Lindsay Lohan was arrested back in 2010, she actually spent time in the same jail with Alexis Neiers.
